Paranirvana Festival
at 2 PM on Sunday 26th February
An afternoon of metta (Loving Kindness) and reflection to celebrate the Buddha's last days. We will recall the Buddha's death and reflect on impermanence and mortality as they affect us, our friends and our family.
The Paranirvana is the episode in the Buddha's life when he finally left his body and we reflect on death and impermanence at this festival. This can evoke sadness and grief of the loss of someone dear to us but also new beginnings, change and purification.
The Paranirvana festival is also an opportunity to remember and reflect on anyone close to us that has died in the past year. If you would like to bring a photograph of them along it can be placed on the shrine before the festival starts.
The afternoon will begin with meditation followed by a talk by Pramudita titled: 'It's Not Dark Yet'. After a leg stretch there will be a puja.
As part of the puja we will be celebrating several members of the sangha becoming mitras. This means making a ritul declaration that they want to practice the Buddha's teaching in the context of the Triratna Buddhist Community tradition. A very significant day for both them and the Centre.
Doors open at 1.30pm for a 2.00pm start.
